New Ambassador of Maldives presents Credentials to Chinese President
The new Ambassador of Maldives to China, Mohamed Rasheed, presented his Letter of Credence to the President of the Peoples Republic of China, Hu Jintao.
After receiving the Credentials, President Hu Jintao congratulated Ambassador Rasheed and stated that he looks forward to further strengthening the relations between the countries. President Hu Jintao also expressed appreciation for Maldives stand in ‘One China’ policy.
Ambassador Rasheed expressed that he wishes to promote cultural exchanges integrating both countries to understand and appreciate both cultures. He also said that in the international arena, Maldives will support China’s candidature for the Human Rights Council and will forge consensus on environmental and ecological matters.
Ambassador Rasheed stated that the current political situation in the Maldives is stable. The most important challenge at the moment is to strengthen and secure economic stability. He also expressed gratitude for the assistance China has given to the Maldives in the past and wishes that they continue in the future especially to enhance the economy.
On behalf of the President of the Republic of Maldives the Ambassador extended an invitation to President Hu Jintao to visit the Maldives at a mutually convenient time.
The ceremony was held at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing.
