Article Tools
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that the rectification of the Islamic Ummah begins with the rectification of oneself.
The Former President made this statement speaking at the Revival of the nights of Ramadan program organized by the Maumoon Foundation. Gayoom said that rectification of the Ummah begins with oneself and it is incumbent upon every Muslim to be God fearing and righteous.
Gayoom said that if everyone becomes righteous and adorn themselves with righteous actions then they would become ambassadors of good deeds for the whole society.
In his speech, Gayoom said that Allah has granted the Islamic Ummah as the most best of nations so therefore the Muslim should do his best to enjoin good and forbid wrongdoings.
He also said that the Muslim should respect others and work towards the wellbeing of the whole society.

Genuinely beautiful words, Mr. Abdul-Gayoom.
MUCH easier said than done, reforming oneself.
There is a Hadith which says that the Jihad-Al Akbar (the Greater Jihad) is the Jihad al-Naffs (Struggle against oneself. As pointed out by Sheikh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyah, and many others, such a Hadith lacks Sahih, it is da’if. However, the Sheikh also explained, that does not mean that its principle is untrue. For example, in Bukhari and Muslim, Prophet (SAW) said that he who can control his anger is stronger than a wrestler.
For me, the Jihad al-Naffs is the never ending struggle within our own selves of self sacrificial love verses our own selfishness. To love humanity more than oneself, which involves a sacrifice of our own pride and other things IF necessary, is an essential aspect of Submission to the Will of Allah.
Prophet (SAW) and Al-Bayt His Household) near starved to feed the Masakin, the Muslims did not hesitate to throw themselves into danger to protect innocent babies from being buried alive, and people being oppressed.
When we are too afraid to sacrifice ourselves to elevate truth (Al-Haqq) Justice (Adhaalath) and humanity (Amm) ABOVE corruption, oppression will always win.
Mr. Abdul-Gayoom, please be bigger than your own hurt and pride, and forgive Nasheed seems he apologized. Even If he was not genuine, for the sake of peace please TRY talking to him and forgiving him, please be a bigger man than your hurt. IF it fails – you tried, we’ll respect that (I will)
