Coast Guard divers find the body of missing person

MNDF Coast Guard divers have found the dead body of the missing person from “Masriveli” vessel at a depth of 44m at deep sea. The vessel “Masriveli” sank after facing a stormy weather at around 0545hrs. Upon receiving the call by the MNDF Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC), divers of MNDF Northern Area Coast Guard Squadron were sent to the scene and started the search. The body was found inside the wheel house of the sunken vessel at around 0852hrs today morning.

MRCC stated that the incident occurred while the vessel was involved in unloading cargo from another boat “Gateway Prestigious” that came from Male’ City to Fushivelifaru Resort at Noonu Atoll. MRCC also stated that there were 3 people onboard the vessel at the time of the incident including 2 Maldivians and one foreigner. The distress call of the incident was made by another vessel called “Vaali” which travelling nearby. The body of the missing was evacuated to Fushivelifaru Resort at around 0915hrs by a launch of Maldives Police Service.
