Thimarafushi MP and opposition MDP member Mohamed Mustafa has called the people to come out to the streets and join the MDP members to topple the current government.
Speaking at the public rally of the former ruling party held last evening at Artificial beach area, MP Mustafa said that the government of President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik is illegitimate. He said that the people should come out and bring a coup d’état.
Mustafa said that the former ruling party came to power after much hard work and toil. He said that MDP will return to power again in the same manner. He called all members and well wishers of MDP throughout the country to come to Male’ City to join them in their protest against the current administration.
“Come here to the capital city. No one can stop you. Let us over throw the current military government. We will snatch away the power as they snatched it away from us. We will show no mercy. We call all of you in all of the islands of Maldives to come to us. Do not be ashamed. Do not fear. Let us join our hands as one to bring down the government on 17th of this month,” he said.
Mustafa alleged that the government will try to obstruct the protest by arresting all the islanders coming to Male’ for the protest.
“We will take it away in the same manner they took it away from us. If someone snatched your phone would you go to him peacefully and try to negotiate with him? No never. Therefore I do not believe that we have to negotiate with the people who took our leadership by deposing our government in a coup,” he said.
Mustafa stressed that if the MDP government was not brought down in a coup then he does not what a coup is.
