More work to be done to establish a society that respects human rights: President

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hasan Manik has said that more work is to be done to establish a society that values and respects human rights.
The President made this remark in his meeting with the members of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
In the meeting which was held in the President’s Office yesterday, the President said that he will give his full cooperation to the commission in their mission to lead the promotion and protection of Human Rights under the Maldives Constitution.
President Dr. Waheed underscored the importance of strengthening the role of HRCM and other institutions. He said protecting the human rights of each and every individual was the main objective of all the policies of the current government.
Speaking in this regard, the President also underscored ensuring people’s rights involved incorporating and mainstreaming human rights thinking in all levels of the government in policy making and implementation, and state institutions.
He added that the government and other institutions should also ensure equitable distribution of benefits their programmes and plans among all citizens.
