Supreme Court verdict on Mustafa is overtly biased
The former ruling party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has raised concern regarding the verdicts of the courts of law and has alleged that the Supreme Court verdict which stripped Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Mustafa from his seat in the Peoples’ Majlis was overtly biased.
In a press release of the party issued yesterday, MDP said that they were shocked that the Supreme Court ruled against MP Mustafa when the Criminal court gave their verdict in favour of Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim yesterday.
MDP statement accused that the political leaders who participated in the alleged coup are now trying to strip the Parliamentary members of the party from their seats by accusing them of all sorts of crimes.
The former ruling party accused that the Judiciary of the country is intervening into politics and the current verdicts are politically biased.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has ruled against MDP parliament member Musthafa invalidating his representation of the Thimarafushi Constituency in the Peoples’ Majlis.
Musthafa was found guilty of concealing an earlier ruling of debt repayment obligations during his election process.
Musthafa lost his seat by a 4 against 3 ruling of the Supreme Court bench. The case filed against Musthafa by Umar Naseer, the Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
