Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

The Police have said that the belongings of former President Nasheed who resigned yesterday include, large amounts liquor bottles and evidence of the use of hash oil (a product of cannabis or ganja).

The Police did not reveal the number of liquor bottles found. They also said that several of the liquor bottles were packed in boxes stamped with the Maldivian emblem having security checked seals from the Special Protection Group (SPG) of the Maldives National Defence Force.

According to the Police some of the packages addressed to Nasheed from foreign parties sent to him as gifts. Some of the packages were addressed to close associates of Nasheed, including his close friend Ziyad (Ziyattey).

Nasheed has been often accused of drinking alcohol and using hash oil, and he was known to have espousing a policy of legalizing “soft drugs”. And because of the suspicions of drug use he was nick named “Ganjabo” (pothead) by the opposition during his three year rule.

  1. If liquar and illegal drugs have been found in Nasheed’s residance, what action has been taken by the law enforcement agencies? This must be brought to justice so that people know that Maldives still has the rule of law. Nasheed’s supporters should decide who to support, the country’s constitution, law or their leader?

  2. We await eventual legal action. Liqour and drugs smuggled into the Presidential Residence in high security evelopes and paper imprinted with the government’s emblem is a breach of law. Who would deny the facts except an outlaw like Anni?
