Judges apparently acts as the representatives of criminals: Afeef
Article Tools
Judges sometimes apparently acts as the representatives of hard-core criminals when they are taken to court to increase the days of detention, says Minister of Home Affairs Hassan Afeef.
Minister Afeef made this remark speaking at the meeting of the National Security Committee of the Peoples’ Majlis yesterday evening.
Minister Afeef said that the biggest reason for the ongoing judiciary crisis in the country is because judges are themselves appointed as their own supervisory body. In view of the civic unrest, he said that the protesters are causing havoc in the streets damaging public properties. He said that courts are not allowing the Police to increase the period of detainment of the protesters taken to custody for instigating violence.
“Within 24 hours of the arrest we have to take them to court. However, the Judges let them free claiming that there is no reason to keep them in detention,” he said.
Afeef alleged that the Judges are releasing hardcore criminals on the claims of making the Minister accountable. He said that these ridiculous behavior of the judges result in the criminal perpetrating more crimes and sometimes even killing more people.
