Protest clash injure jounalist and damage buildings

Ali FahdLast night’s opposition protest held in MMA area ended peacefully but when they marched through some streets of Male’ afterwards they were clashed with a group of ruling MDP activists near the MDP Haruge. MDP activists clashed with the large number of opposition protesters and the clash seriously injured MNBC journalist while some others were also injured. Glass windows of some building were also broken. In the violence that followed office of DhiTV was attacked breaking glass doors. Police hassaid they will investigate the attacks on the journalist and DhiTV office.
Leaders of opposition political parties spoke in the protest to repeat their condemnation of the Government over the arrest of Senior Judge of the Criminal Court Abdullah Mohamed. They vowed they will continue the protest until the Government released Judge Abdulla. Jumhoory Party Leader Gasim Ibrahim, Adalath Party Leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla, DRP Leader Ahmed Thasmeen, PPM Deputy Leader Umar Naseer and Qawmy Part Deupty Leader Dr. Mohamed Jameel were among the speakers.
Protesters expressed anti Government sentiments and called for the resignation of President Nasheed. They demanded to stop all unconstitutional and unlawful actions of the Government immediate and return to the rule of law.They also expressed their anger about the Government’s plan to bring foreign judges to the country. Some persons were arrested following the clash.
MDP also held their protest in some areas of Male’ last night. They were seen near MMA area and Supreme Court. They have also continuously held their meetings every night at their Haruge in protest of the anti Government activities. MDP has said they will never give up their struggle to reform the Judiciary and enforce justice to corrupt judges.
