Opposition PPM Deputy Leader Umar Naseer has said Vice President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Maniku will constitutionally become the next President of the Maldives when President Nasheed resigns from the post at the climax of the current judicial crisis. There is growing opposition protests against the President to save the country from his unconstitutional rule and the deepening crisis the country has plunged.

Umar was speaking in a VTV program regarding the deteriorating situation of the country which he said is the result of President Mohamed Nasheed’s continued violation of the Constitution. He said the President’s power is fast approaching the end and few officials of the Government is now supporting him. Even members of ruling MDP are extremely concerned about the President’s lack of respect for the Constitution. The problems are not with MDP. It is not a bad party, MDP has many good and capable people. The whole situation is because of Nasheed’s incapability, insincerity and arrogance, he said. Umar said MDP must now separate from Nasheed.

PPM Leader said very soon the Armed  and police orces also will give up and leave the President because they know the President is being trapped in increasing number of abuses of power and violation of the Constitution. It may be tonight, tomorrow or a month later when the Defence force and Police will decide to leave the President alone and that is the deciding moment, the opposition leader said. That is the time Vice President Waheed will take over according to the Constitution. We do not have any wish  to get positions of the new Government, but we expect the new Government will be a national government.

Prominent lawyer Diyana Saeed who resigned from the post of SAARC Secretary General after criticising President Nasheed for violating the Constitution has again condemned the President over his continuing unconstitutional actions. She noted the issue about the President’s latest decision to stop paying salaries of lower court judges and not enforcing their verdicts. Diyana who was the first Attorney General in Nasheed’s Government said she felt sad about the President’s actions and is convinced that there is no constitutional capacity of the President any longer and he must be impeached now.
