Celebration of 63rd Republic Day of India in Maldives

The 63rd Republic Day was celebrated on 26th January, 2012 by the Indian High Commission and members of local Indian Community in Maldives in the High Commission premises in Male’.
A function was held in the morning with hoisting of National flag by the High Commissioner, Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, followed by singing of National Anthem.
The Address of the President of India to the Nation on the eve of Republic Day was read out by the High Commissioner. Thereafter, in his own address, the High Commissioner, while appreciating the contribution of the Indian community, encouraged everybody to avoid negativism and do their best in their respective area of work to build a prosperous India, free of long standing social problems. He also encouraged the local Indian community to improve their understanding and relations with Maldivian community. The programme was attended by large number of people from the Indian Community.
Earlier, on the eve of Indian Republic Day, a reception was held in the Dharubaaruge Hall, Male’, where large number of Indian and Maldivian dignitaries were present, including President of Maldives, Mohamed Naseed, Vice President, members of Cabinet, members of diplomatic corps and other prominent members of Maldivian community.
Addressing the guests, the President lauded the support and inspiration from India in all fields, and specifically in Maldives’ efforts to build a stable democratic nation, institutions and rule of law.
