President of the opposition Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imtan Abdullah has urged the people to continue tomorrow’s mass protest, organized by the Civil Society Coalition, even if all of the leaders of the protest are arrested.
Sheikh Imran said that he and the Deputy President of the Civil Society Coalition, Abdullah Mohamed have been summoned to the National Security Committee of the Peoples’ Majlis today at 10:00. He said that it is possible that they might be arrested after the meeting of the committee. He added that the government might even arrest all the leading organizers of the protest.
Sheikh Imran said that the Civil Society Coalition has made all the arrangements for the protest and the people can continue the protest even if the leaders are to be arrested.
In view of the recent derogatory remarks of the President regarding the implementation of Islamic penalties such as stoning, Sheikh Imran said that this shows that all of the people needs to come out and join the mass protest.
“The President is apparently saying that the people do not want the religion of Islam. And he is saying to join his demonstration to protest against Islam. Therefore, the people should come out and show to the world the religion we are upon. We should show that the people want Islam alone in the Maldives,” he said.
Abdullah Mohamed of the Civil Society Coalition said that the President has been taking undue advantage of all the authority he has to obstruct the protest.
“The Friday sermons are also speaks against it. They are also bribing some of the scholars to speak against the protest,” he said.

please don’t promote fasaadh (disruption) in the minds of Maldivians… you will be accountable for all bad deeds done by Maldivians.
first try to clear all sins you have committed before you urge us Maldivians to do so…
