President Nasheed Calls on the President of Mauritius

President Mohamed Nasheed has paid a courtesy call on Sir Anerood Jugnauth, President of Mauritius.

Discussions at the meeting held at the State House, the official residence of the Mauritian President, centred on enhancing the relations between the Maldives and Mauritius.

President Nasheed underscored the importance of increasing cooperation between the India Ocean island nations stating that there were many areas where these countries could jointly explore for their development.

President Anerood commended President Nasheed’s struggle for democracy in the Maldives and his efforts, as the President, to consolidate democracy in the Maldives.

In addition, President Nasheed and First Lady Laila Ali, yesterday attended the banquet hosted by Prime Minister of Mauritius Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam and Mrs Ramgoolam.

President Nasheed and the First Lady arrived in Mauritius yesterday. They were greeted at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport by the Prime Minister and his wife, and other senior officials of the Mauritius government.
