Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain has said that no powers can stand in front of him except the Islamic Shari’ah and law.

In an interview with SunFM online Chief Justice said that the doors of the Judicial System will be closed from any Political or any such influences.

This was his first interview after the establishment of the first permanent Supreme Court of Maldives under the present Government.

He said that the door of Judicial system has never been subject to political influences and in the future the works will remain free from such influences.
“At first, the Supreme Court had a bench of 5 members but now it has a strong bench of 7 qualified members. We cannot be influenced” said Faiz.

He stressed that there is no room for any political influence to enter into the Courts of Law. Furthermore, he also stated that political influence will never be accepted by the current bench of the Supreme Court.

“We will never give the chance and I will never open such a door. All the doors of the Judicial system will be kept closed from all political influences and also from any influence of any other power,” added the Chief Justice.
Faiz also noted that Islamic Shari’ah and the legislated Laws are the only power that can influence the Judicial System, its judges and also any of its subordinates.

“In the hearings, and in the whole Judicial system, me myself will depend only upon the foundations, that is the Islamic Shari’ah and the legislated laws. I will never give chance for any political influence,” said Faiz.

Regarding the current bench of the the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice said that the bench consists of highly qualified, well educated professionals and that he does not doubt their efficiency in the least bit.

‘I trust them and their work with a full 100 percent. And I have full conviction. I am happy that I am chosen to work with such a team. I am also a member of the bench. And I am not an exception from them. Since the bench is complete only with 7 members, I am also one of them. The only difference is that I will chair the bench. Other than that, I am also one of the members of the bench,” added the Chief Justice.
