Fixed lines continue to fall in Maldives

The Telecom paper has reported that the total number of telephone lines in the Maldives (including payphones) dropped to 48,102 at the end of July from 49,415 at the end of April.

According to their website, the majority of lines (35,045) were in Male, Villingili, Aarah, Hulhule and Hulhumale islands, while fixed lines on other inhabited islands numbered 11,853, 980 on resorts, and 224 on uninhabited islands, according to figures from the Telecommunications Authority of Maldives.

The number of mobile subscribers totalled 472,375, up from 459,984 at end-April. Of the total, 400,629 were prepaid and 71,746 were postpaid mobile users.

The number of internet subscribers slipped to 1,251 from 1,253 April, and comprised 1,083 ISDN users and 11,986 ADSL users.

The teledensity for fixed lines fell to 15.54 from 15.96, while the teledensity for mobile lines rose to 152.59 from 148.59 in April.
