Universal announces peaceful resolution of Kurumba strike

Universal Enterprises Private Limited (Universal) has announced the peaceful resolution of the industrial dispute at Kurumba Maldives.

Universal stated in their last night’s media release that they had taken all possible measures to address any legitimate grievances raised by the staff of Kurumba Maldives.

“Once the Universal delegation was finally able to ascertain specific grievances; it was found that the employees had been acting under significant misconceptions, particularly in respect of some crucial aspects relating to computation of service charge and wage policies. However, despite having key financial staff on standby from late evening on 21st August till early evening of 23rd August, Universal was prevented by the organizers of the action from providing accurate and detailed information to the employees,” said the press release.

Universal also assured that all employees that no employees will be disciplined for the lawful exercises of his constitutional right to stop work in protest.

However, the company said that they would not accept that the physical damage to property or the personal injury to any person as justifiable or lawful exercise of the right to stop work.

Universal alleged that the organizers of the strike staged a vociferous demonstration in the vicinity of the guests at the resort, thereby detrimentally affecting tourist arrivals, and causing significance loss to the Maldivian economy as a whole.
