Third meeting of the peace talks cancelled due to MDP’s “no show”

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

Third meeting of the series of discussions between the government and the opposition to cool down political crisis in the Maldives was cancelled yesterday, for no show of MDP delegates.

MDP has said that although joint statement issued after the second meeting announced that the next meeting would be held yesterday at 1600 hrs, MDP was under the impression that the meeting would be held at 1630 hrs.

Speaking on the cancellation of the much awaited meeting, Qasim Ibrahim, leader of JP said that he finds it hard to digest that MDP was confused of the time, as it was agreed during the second meeting and announced in the subsequent joint statement as well.

Opposition representatives were at the Parliament Secretariat at 1600 hrs and waited for their counterparts for 10 minutes and then left the building.
