Taking into consideration the legal and political realities of the recent history of Maldives, Gasim Ibrahim, Opposition Jumhooree Party Leader also Maamigili MP publicly called on the members of the Jumhooree Party to work for the removal of President Nasheed from power in conformity with the constitution.
During a special session held at Ranbaa to commemorate the 2dn anniversary of Jumhooree Party, Qasim said that it was Jumhooree Party who did the most effort and spent the most amounts to bring the present government to power and that President Nasheed could not have come to power without the support of his Jumhooree Party.
Qasim added that contrary to his earlier belief that President Nasheed would run the government in the boundaries of the constitution now he regrets backing President Mohamed Nasheed into office.
He alleged that President Nasheed is hypocritical and for instance the imprisonment of opposition figures is in conflict with Presiden’s earlier statements.
Speaking at the commemoration of the 2nd anniversary of Jumhooree Party where many from the officials of political parties and MPs were present Qasim said, “I know that there are members who hesitate to join our 2nd anniversary. If anyone is hesitant to be a member of the Jumhooree Party it would be better to resign instead of keeping it undisclosed.”
Last night alone 100 members from the ruling party MDP signed to Jumhooree Party.
