Police Integrity Commission
Police Integrity Commission has expressed concern over Police blockage of the JSC and JSA and specifically in lack of accountability by Police.
Police officers dispatched to the scene refused to talk to members of the Commission. Members of the Police Integrity Commission were not allowed into the offices, according to the reports.
Shaira, a member of the Commission said that it has been examining the blockade since it happened yesterday morning and would wish to comment after those findings. She also noted that it is too early to judge whether the blockade is legal or illegal.
Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, former Justice Minister and deputy leader of opposition DQP, said that the blockade was an act by the Executive to influence the judiciary and in a system in which Executive, Judiciary and Legislature are independent powers, these things should not happen. Jameel also noted that all three powers should respect the remaining two powers and influencing other powers or encroaching into the mandate of other powers is not compatible with liberal democracy.
Dr. Jameel also said that Police should not act to this order by the President under article 115 of the Constitution, because article 245 of the Constitution states that “No person shall give an illegal order to a member of the security services. Members of the security services shall not obey a manifestly illegal order”.
