Villa College Students Association (VCSA) has opened a donation box to support the Pakistan flood victims.

According to the VCSA president, donations collected from the students and staff will be handed over to the Pakistan embassy in Maldives. Further, he commented that this is an effort to do what we can to help our brothers and sisters who are in vain due to floods in Pakistan, in this sacred month.

Meanwhile, President Mohamed Nasheed and Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed have appealed all Maldivians to support the victims of floods in Pakistan.

Vice President Dr Waheed and his wife Madam Ilham Hussain made a donation to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund, set up to support those who are affected.

Adhaalath Party’s (AP) fund to help Pakistani Flood victims has raised almost Rf627089.90.

Last week, employees of ADK Hospital also donated MRF 85,000 to Pakistan flood relief fund opened in Pakistan High Commission in Maldives.

Universal Enterprises donated MRF 100,000 to the millions of Muslim flood victims of Pakistan.

Maldives National Shipping Line (MNSL) also donated USD 1000 to the Pakistan flood victims.

Pakistani Government has called upon the international community to generously support Pakistan’s flood victims.

International aid agencies have warned that six million children in flood-ravaged areas were at risk of life-threatening diarrhoeal diseases, malnutrition and pneumonia.

Doctors fear stagnant flood plains in densely populated, poverty-stricken urban areas may become breeding grounds for cholera, mosquitoes and malaria.

The United Nations says the disaster is the biggest Pakistan has faced and it would cost billions to rehabilitate the victims and rebuild ruined infrastructure.
