MJA condemns Sarangu Adam Manik attack on Cameraman
Article Tools
Maldives Journalist Association (MJA) has strongly condemned Sarangu Adam Manik, the President of Male’ Municipality for attacking a cameraman of the private TV Channel DhiTV on yesterday and snatching his camera while doing a news coverage outside Male’ Municipality.
Manik attacked Hussain Najah, while he was filming a dispute between Manik and Islamic Foundation of the Maldives, when Male’ Municipality removed banners which were inviting for a religious sermon.
MJA said that they believe Manik has behaved in a “very dirty” manner, which is seen from the politicians of primitive societies.
MJA also noted that when the journalist was attacked, he was filming outside the Municipality office, an area where filming is not forbidden.
“DhiTV and witnesses have informed MJA that the journalist was physically hurt when attacked. MJA calls Maldives Police Service to investigate this case, and also calls Media to condemn the attack and to protest against it”, said MJA in their media release.
