A man who used his Bank of Maldives (BML) debit card in India loses MRF 14000.
“I needed cash so I decided to use my BML debit card, slotted in my card, but I couldn’t withdraw money from the ATM. I tried several times but had no luck. And after returning back to Male’ I checked my bank statement and to my surprise, it had deducted thousands of money from my account. I have sent a complaint to BML,” said the man.
The man said that BML contacted the Indian Banks and one of them agreed that they have not received money for the transaction.
He said, “BML gave me a compensation of only about RF1400 but I have lost RF14000.”
Recently there have been a number of complaints from Maldvians living and traveling abroad about losing money from BML Debit Cards and Credits Cards.
State Bank of India (SBI) has also informed that they also have received such complaints but that they only received 10 complaints in the 3 year debit card service.
SBI also informed that 9 from the 10 complaints were solved.
Speaking to Miadhu, an economist said, “Preventive measures should be taken to avoid unauthorized transactions such as carrying a note book to keep a record of all the transactions made with the debit or credit card; contacting the bank immediately to report the unauthorized transaction; checking the statements immediately for unauthorized transactions and complaining by phone and in writing the bank as soon as transactions on statements not authorized are noted.”
