Islamic Law is not complete except with Quran and Sunnah- Gayoom

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Mamoon Abdul Gayoom, Maldives’ former President and Chairman of Maumoon Foundation has said that Islamic law is not complete except with Quran and Prophetic tradition (Sunnah).

“The Sunnah is the explanation of the Quran,” said Gayoom speaking at the ceremony held by Maumoon Foundation on Wednesday night to revive and renew the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan.

Gayoom said that worships like praying five times a day, fasting, giving charity, and pilgrimage can only be performed except by following to the Sunnah.

Gayoom also refuted the deviations of those who are satisfied with the Quran to the exclusion of Sunnah.

He said that these deviants only follow their whims and fancies; without seeking the explanation of the Sunnah.

“As has been made clear Sunnah has an important bearing on Islamic Law,” Gayoom added.
