Opposition Dhivehi Qaumy Party [DQP] Deputy Leader, Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed has alleged that Government has ruined the business of his company Meridian Services after he voted in favour of the amendment to Public Finance Act which is compulsory for the President to sanction it.
“STO has informed on Sunday afternoon that the credit limit to Meridian Services was reduced from US$20 million to US$10 million,” said DQP Deputy Leader.
In a letter sent to Meridian Services by STO, which was signed by STO General Manager stated that, “In accordance to right given by the credit agreement signed between STO and Meridiam, we hereby inform you that the credit limit will be reduced to US$10 million after one month from the date of delivery of the letter.”
Riyaz noted that the 45 days given earlier to pay the credit given was also changed to 30 days.
DQP Parliamentary Group Leader, Riyaz also alleged that he was warned by some MPs after he voted in favour of the amendment to Public Finance Act. He claimed that they warned that not even a single litre of oil would be supplied to Meridian.
Furthermore, Riyaz claimed that STO Chairman Farooq Umar threatened to end the oil business with his company since the day he appointed himself as a candidate for Vilufushi.
Riyaz said that he did not vote in favour of the amendment to Public Finance to obstruct the work of the Government.
“I voted with the intent of benefiting the citizenry,” said Riyaz.
