Disputes should be solved through discussions –MATATO
Article Tools
Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has said that disputes occurring in Resorts should be solved through discussions.
MATATO said this following the 3 day strike incident of the staff of Kurumba Maldives which resulted in the temporary closure of the resort.
The association also noted that the strike incident at Kurumba Maldives has had a roll-on impact on the local tour operators and travel agents.
The five stare resort Kurumaba Maldives has resumed its operation after the resort was shut down following the strike by its employees. Police arrested 19 of the strikers.
The management of the resort now agrees that they understand the some of the issues of the employees and will look into it. However, the resort claims that they have lost millions in lost business.
MATATO also warned disruptive strike incidents “could potentially discredit tourism in the Maldives”, and that it was not inconceivable that the Maldives tourism industry “could fade away as happened in Bali [following the 2005 bombings].”
