Speaker Abdulla Shahid prioritizes motions and bills proposed by the political parties that control the parliament and those motions and bills are being debated at the parliament on an “emergency” basis, while government’s bills are pending in the parliament for years, MDP has said.
MDP Parliamentary Group leader and MP for Hulhuhenveiru brought the issue to the attention of Shahid on a letter sent by the MDP Parliamentary Group addressed to Speaker of the Parliament.
MDP also expressed concern that many of the bills that are necessary as result of the new constitution of the Maldives are pending in the parliament and the deadline for many of those bills will be over by 11 November 2010.
Moosa also noted that parliament is against the austerity measures of the government. Moosa also added that Tax Bill, a key to increase government income, is also pending in the parliament. He also noted that the Chair of the sub committee to consider issue is also from the opposition party.
Moosa also added that parliament’s lack of mood to cooperate with the government has resulted in the en masse resignation of the cabinet. MDP is inclined to believe the statements by the government as reason behind the en masse resignation, it also said.
Moosa also said that a solution for the stalemate is necessary and noted that some 12 bills are necessary bills and requested that those bills can be adopted as soon as possible.
Moosa also recalled that the cooperation of the Speaker us necessary on the issue.
