President requested for the resignation of VP – DQP

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Dhivehi Qaumee Party has said that President requested for the resignation of the Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed.

DQP also maintains that the en masse resignation of the entire cabinet was a political stunt by President Nasheed.

“DRP also understands that the cabinet resignation was an effort to make VP quit. VP’s resignation letter was also prepared along with the Minister’s resignation letter. President also asked the VP to sign the letter and it is unlikely that President Nasheed might have asked for the resignation of the entire cabinet without asking VP to resign” a statement by DQP said.

The statement from the party also noted the en masse resignation of the cabinet as a “joke”. It also said that ministers voluntarily have not resigned but was done as per the President Nasheed’s orders. The live coverage of the en masse resignation also shows that it was staged, according to DQP.

“Master draft of the resignation letter was prepared at the same table, and was drafted by President Nasheed himself” it noted.

DQP is lead by Dr. Hassan Saeed and Dr. Mohamed Jameel, who are also the lawyers of MP for Maamingili, Qasim Ibrahim, and has been criticizing the government heavily.

  1. Only politicians will stage moves like that. Nasheed is a better politician than Saeed. Even if there is another election you cant win. if you want to be in the opposition for the rest of your life go for it. or else go to your wifes country. they need you as an imam in a mosque.
