President Nasheed has failed in fulfilling his only pledge and best option now is resignation – Munavvaru

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Dr. Mohamed Munawwar, former Attorney-General and former President of the MDP has said that President Nasheed has failed in realizing his only pledge, and best option for him now is resignation.

Speaking at a VTV programme Dr. Munawwar also added that pledges such as housing is not really a pledge, but a service that government would have to give anyway.

He also added that the issue here is that President Nasheed has failed as a President and resignation of the cabinet would not solve the problem, but the solution is resignation of the President himself. Dr. Munawwar competed against President Nasheed in the presidential primary but was defeated by the future President.

“He does not know how to rule the country as people wishes or as people wants. He wants to lead the country like a child’s game and does not have diligence in his leadership” he noted criticizing the government heavily.

For instance, he noted that policy on electricity subsidies has been changing and still subsidies are being paid for the wealthy and expatriates as well. He also added that there are problems with the pension scheme as well.

Dr. Munawwar also noted that President has failed in apprehending looters and when some of them joins the ruling MDP, they become clean.

Dr. Munwwar also added that if a lower court issues a ruling on keeping suspects on detention, the ruling has to be abided despite the fact that it could be contested in an upper court.

But court rulings are not taken seriously by the government because it is failed and added that opposition figures cannot be imprisoned in a sound democracy.

Dr. Munawwar also noted that democracy is not only how one sees best for the country. He also added that if the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives or Civil Service Commission make decisions that government does not support, those commissions are labeled by government as “dictatorial” and said that it is not the democracy he understands.

He also criticized MDP’s statement that parliament is dictatorial, as parliament consists of representatives from the people.

Dr. Munawwar also added that while government has been criticizing parliament for slow parliamentary process, government has also failed in meeting many deadlines.

  1. A failed person in too many times, can only see others failing. He Cannot judge others fairly.Munavvar, Thasmeen, Qasim, Yameen,Hassan Saeed are all failed persons from what they did in the past.

  2. The past two and half years as president of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed, is only remembered as a crude, corrupt, treacherous and bloodthirsty tyrant who masqueraded as a democrat and sought at all cost to always impose his perverse will on the nation, even where it is clearly detrimental to national interest.

  3. Dr Munawwar made a very relevant statement. The actions of this government falls nothing short of kids let loose in a big toy store. They totally forgot the immense responsibility given to them by the people.Instead of strengthening democracy they embarked on a shameful journey of singling out opposition leaders of any threat to them and harassing them at every opportunity. It is a big joke to think of Nasheed as the humble man personified.Nothing can be more further from the truth. He is whimsical, dictatorial, arrogant and doesnot like to get any advice from anyone. He feels that he is above all and cannot make any wrong decision but the events have started to prove otherwise.Very soon all this will snowball and not even he can control it.
It is also a huge comedy show when the ruling party organise demonstrations to show how victimized they are when infact they are the perpetrators. The Maldivian people made a wise decision on not giving them the parliament majority. If that was the case all hell will break loose and it is not impossible for this country to be sold in the guise of taking us to a more greener pasture and a wonderland of our dreams. However this is not to be and all this is irritating the MDP top brass to a great extent and hence all this fuss.Whatever it is time is fast running out for these incompetents and the Maldivian people will ultimately emerge voctorious albeit a little more wiser and definitely bruised on places which they never wanted in the first place
