President inaugurates MNDF Officer Training Wing

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

President Mohamed Nasheed has this morning inaugurated Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Officer Training Wing.

In his address at the ceremony held at Girifushi, President Nasheed said, as the Commander-in-Chief, he would never command the Armed Forces to do anything for his personal gain or for the benefit of his administration, but for the benefit of the whole nation.

MNDF has recently established a Non Commissioned Officers Academy in Gurifushi.

Noting that currently all MNDF officers were trained abroad, the President underscored the importance of establishing officer training facilities in the Maldives.

Speaking in this regard, the President said human resource development and all the other necessary developments to MNDF could now be integrated into the national development plan.

President Nasheed also revealed his vision to make MNDF Girifushi and Officer Training Wing an international military training centre.

In his address this morning, President Nasheed spoke on the history of defence forces and national security service in the Maldives and how they have evolved along with the development of the country.

He also highlighted the government’s policies to develop the defence forces, especially the policy to decentralize the defence forces.

In addition to inaugurating the MNDF Officer Training Wing, the President also laid the foundation stone of the new building of the Officer Training Wing.

Until the new building is complete, Officer Training Wing will operate at the Non Commissioned Officers Academy in Girifushi.
