Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Parliament has suspended its sessions indefinitely.

Before concluding today’s session, Speaker Abdulla Shahid said that he has been having consultations with the political parties and most of them have said that it would be best not to have sessions, if Abdulla Yaameen or any other MP is under MNDF’s detention.

“In view of the consultations, I hereby decide to conclude today’s session. I will announce when we will have the sessions later” Speaker said.

Abdulla Shahid also said that he has appealed from Ministry of Defense and National Security, to release Abdulla Yaameen so that parliamentary sessions could be held.

Shahid also confirmed the receipt of the letter by MNDF on the matter which reads as “I regret to inform that as the conditions for his detention remains same, it would not be able to release Abdulla Yaameen to attend parliamentary sessions”, signed by Amin Faisal, Minister of Defense and National Security.
