Ahmed Thasmeen Ali, Leader of DRP has said that if there is a dictatorial power within the Maldives State, it is the Executive, in an interview to VTV.
Thasmeen also noted that the parliament is the law making body of the state and that it should also make the executive accountable. He also said that parliament cannot be labeled dictatorial for doing its job.
Thasmeen also noted that President can reject the parliament bills if they are unconstitutional and if the law is impractical and President has done so in the past.
Thasmeen also noted that President has rejected the Local Council Elections bill and parliament has revised the bill after the rejection.
“So, if the amendment to Public Finance Act is problematic, he can send the amendment back to parliament and it will take decide on the matter” he said. He also added that if he disagrees with parliament decisions he can always go to Supreme Court.
Thasmeen also said that entire cabinet have not resigned over Local Council Elections bill.
Thasmeen also said that en masse resignation of the parliament was a political stunt and a political show by the government. He noted that government has done similar shows and stunts in the past.
Thasmeen also said that government has imprisoned MPs Abdulla Yaameen and Qasim Ibrahim, because four main opposition parties has united against airport privatization and has supported the amendment to Public Finance Act and that he do not see any wrongdoing of foul-play in it.
Thasmeen also says that government is trying to portray the image that Maldives politics is at a very critical state. Thasmeen also added that he would do whatever he can against government’s new moves.
Thasmeen also noted that the en masse resignation was a very irresponsible act and because of the resignation people will suffer. Thasmeen also denies the government position that parliament is responsible for the resignation and said that cabinet instead should be responsible for their own resignation.

Oh yah! Who is this wise politician Thasmeen? He appears to be a sort of copy of Maumoon. He talks, behaves, winks, gestures, laughs, breaths just like Maumoon. Probably he will be a dictator like Maumoon too if he ever becomes head of state.
