Article Tools
Peoples Alliance has said that MNDF has declined a request by the PA Council to hold a meeting between detained leader Abdulla Yaameen and Council members.
A letter sent by the PA to MNDF says “as Abdulla Yaameen has been detained in your custody since 15 July 2010, we would like to propose a meeting between Abdulla Yaameen and Council members on 21 July 2010at Aarah, location of his detention. We are making this request as there is no pending sentence on Mr. Yaameen and subsequently would be entitled for his constitutional rights of freedom of meeting whomsoever he may deem necessary to meet”.
A response letter by MNDF says “as Mr. Abdulla Yaameen is detained for his safety and security, we are of the view that it would be better not to allow him to meet anyone else other than his lawyer. We therefore, regret to inform that the proposed meeting could not be held”.
