MDP condemns suspension of the parliamentary sessions

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

MDP parliamentary group has issued a statement condemning Speaker’s decision to suspend the parliamentary sessions indefinitely. The statement also expressed concern on the Speaker’s conduct of the sessions recently.

“MNDF is undertaking their constitutional duty and has offered protection for Abdulla Yaameen for his and society’s safety. This is very clear from the letter sent to Parliament by the Defense Minister. MDP cannot accept the fact that DRP is using the absence of Yaameen as a reason to suspend sessions indefinitely” the statement reads.

“Speaker’s suspension of 20 July 2010 sitting, with a pre-written statement, which reflects the views expressed by MP for Kendhoo, Ahmed Thasmeen Ali, is another example of Shahid’s recent oversights in the parliament” MDP MPs said.

The statement also called on the Speaker to manage the parliamentary affairs smoothly, with equal opportunities for all MPs.
