Juvenile Justice Unit transferred to Ministry of Home Affairs

In accordance with Article 116 of the Constitution and the recommendation of the Cabinet, the President has today transferred Juvenile Justice Unit, which was previously linked to the Attorney General’s Office, to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In addition, the function of rehabilitating of juvenile delinquents performed by the Department of Gender and Family Protection Services of Ministry of Health and Family has also been moved to Juvenile Justice Unit.
Following the changes, Correctional Training Centre for Children run by the Maldives Police Service in Feydhoofinolhu of Kaafu Atoll will now operate under the Juvenile Justice Unit.
These changes were made to strengthen children’s correctional facilities and rehabilitation of juvenile delinquents back to society.
