Opposition DRP has condemned the intimidation of Speaker Abdulla Shahid by government supporters, while he was playing badminton at a local school.

Speaking at a press conference, Mahloof Ahmed, MP for Galolhu Dhekunu, said that 20 people crossed the street from MDP Haruge when they spotted Abdulla Shahid’s jeep dropping him off at Imaadhudheen School.

As things began to heat up, Police was asked to help and with their assistance Shahid exited from the backdoor and went to his residence in a taxi, according to Mahloof.

Mahloof also said that some parents have complained of psychological trauma from students, and that some parents have also requested that Haruge be shifted to some other location. Mahloof also added that in addition to intimidating Speaker at the badminton hall, MDP supporters flocked into the main gate of the school and created disturbances there, in addition to using foul-language against the speaker.

Mahloof also noted that when the whole fiasco was going on, students were at the school for co-curricular activities and said that the actions were wrong.

Mahloof also added that after the incident, a group of parents went to Haruge and complained about the incident, which led to a disagreement between parents and activists.
