Best mediator would be someone from within us – President

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

President Nasheed has said that best mediator who could resolve current political crisis in the country would be someone within the Maldives, and not an international mediator.

In a press conference held yesterday, President also said that none of the mediators, local or international, could resolve the crisis immediately. “We will need some time to resolve this crisis and I don’t think that it would be convenient for an international mediator to be in the Maldives for that long” President said.

President Nasheed also confirmed that EU, UN, Commonwealth and four of our major bilateral partners has offered to mediate.

President Nasheed also vowed to send the corruption cases for investigation. President Nasheed also said that government would investigate the cases and there would be no compromise on that, however if convicted government would consider an amnesty as an option.

President Nasheed also said that he do not believe that the fight against corruption could block government efforts to solve the political crisis in the country.
