Article Tools
Islamic Foundation, a local religious NGO has called for death sentence to Nazim, if he does not seek repentance. Earlier in sermon delivered by world renowned scholar, Dr. Zakir Naik, Nazim has publicly announced that he does not believe in any religion, not even Islam. The NGO has also called on the Prosecutor-General to prosecute the case, as according to Maldivian Constitution all Maldivians are to be Muslims.
The press release by the NGO also expressed concern both on Nazim’s public announcement of his non-Muslim status and the subsequent events at the lecture, which has partly disrupted the largest religious lecture ever held in the Maldives. The press release also markd the incident as a “tremor to the religious unity and Islamic faith in the country”.
As according to Constitutions all Maldivians to be Muslims, NGO also called on the authorities to withdraw his Maldivian citizenship, if he does not come back to religion.
The press release also quoted article 142 of the Constitution as “The Judges are independent, and subject only to the Constitution and the law. When deciding matters on which the Constitution or the law is silent, Judges must consider Islamic Shari’ah. In the performance of their judicial functions, Judges must apply the Constitution and the law impartially and without fear, favour or prejudice.”
The NGO further added that as per the article 142 of the Constitution, the situation shall be dealt as prescribed in Islamic Shai’ah and requested that the Police and the Prosecutor-General investigate the case and penalize him accordingly.

when someone says that he doesn’t believe in existence of a religion he is to be killed? what about bringing him to the light of god and Islam? where was this so called Islamic NGO when kids were abused? why didn’t they issue the death certificate like they are the grim reaper organization? Extremist organizations like these are killing our peace and society.I believe in Islam and its tolerance to other religions
Great religious tolerance! This guy has the courage to express himself publicly and the “peaceful” muslims trip over themselves to cut his head off! Makes me want to run out and convert right now! You people wonder why the civilized world despises you.
