MDP responds to DRP’s accusation that MDP is behind attacks against journalists

In a press release issued by the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP has said that the accusation by the opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) that MDP is behind the attacks against the journalists, is a deliberate attempt by DRP to score political points and to mislead the people, and a blatant disregard to facts on the ground.
The press release also stated that the press freedom in the Maldives today was achieved through the hard work of its members and if there was any group or individual who would destroy the press freedom, that would be the same groups or individuals who tried to prevent press freedom in the past and those who had jailed journalists and those who had used religion as a convenient political weapon.
MDP also said that it has always condemned such actions and called on the DRP to refrain from misinforming the public.
MDP also said that it condemns actions by the DRP to mislead the public as well.
