Maldives to share its findings on the extension if its continental shelf
Article Tools
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has said that it is working to share the findings on the possibility of extending Maldives continental shelf with relevant government agencies.
Major Mohamed Ibrahim said that Maldives Submission on its continental shelf has to be completed and lodged to UN’s Commission on Continental Shelf before 7 September 2010. He also said that a desktop study had already been prepared with assistance from Commonwealth Secretariat.
Major Mohamed Ibrahim also said that in the process the technical team had studied technical data on Indian Ocean and Maldives as early as 1970s.
Mohamed Ibrahim also noted the difficulty of obtaining necessary experts to conduct the studies, as the data required for the process is highly technical.
