Court ruling issued to send “Chikka” back to jail with 9 others to be held in custody for investigation

Criminal Court has issued a ruling that Abdulla “Chikka” Nafiz be sent back to prison to serve the reminder of his 5 year jail sentence. Court also ruled to extend the custody of 9 men who were apprehended in a Police special operation to counter the reviving gang violence in the capital Male’.
Before the suspected gang fighters were brought to the Court, security was heightened in the area.
Criminal Court ruled to keep them in custody for 5 – 15 days. Some of them are even suspected for participation in the murder of Ali Ishar (Choattey) in late 2007. Some of them are also suspected of other high profile gang violence cases.
Among the 9 in detention one is 15 years old and the suspects are linked to several high profile gang violence cases in the Maldives. Police also reported that they had previous record for drugs, robbery and gang violence.
