AG Office is delaying the legal proceedings – Civil Service Commission
Hearing on the case of Civil Service Commission vs Finance Ministry, on the civil servants pay was cancelled yesterday as the state attorney did not attend the hearing. AG Office was however fined by MRF 75 (USD 6) according to the Court.
During the last hearing held on the case, State’s attorney had requested for more time to prepare for the case.
Registrar of the Civil Court, Abdul Rauf said that the original hearing was scheduled for 8 March but was postponed for yesterday upon a request from the AG Office. He also said that AG Office requested for a postponement even yesterday, but Court received the letter too late, even after the judge had declared to cancel the hearing.
Civil Service Commission had said that the stunt by the AG Office was a “delay” technique to prolong the legal proceedings.
President Nasheed has said that the civil servants salaries would be reinstated in April and had requested for the patience of the civil servants. President Nasheed had also thanked the civil servants for their understanding, despite the pressure from certain political parties to demonstrate against the government.
