ACC lodges corruption cases of Auditor-General for prosecution

ACC has lodged two cases against Naeem with the Prosecutor-General’s Office, for the alleged corruption charges, under article 14(a) of Law on Prevention and Prohibition of Corruption.
Assistant Director of Finance of the Office Aiminath Rasheeda, is also being charged for her alleged involvement in making the new payment receipt with a much earlier date.
According to ACC, Naeem spent Rf27,354.14 out of Rf134,915.49 put on Auditor General’s Office’s Bank of Maldives Visa credit card, for his personal uses. While the last transaction was made on May 28, 2008, a chip card was made from Bank of Maldives, after canceling the card, the commission said.
According to a press release issued by ACC US$ 7,140.28 out of US$ 19,479.80 (Rf250,315.43) was spent from the new card, was spent for Auditor General’s personal uses. Rf442,020.39 out of Rf598,571.9 spent from the American Express Card issued to Auditor General’s Office, was spent for Naeem’s personal uses as well.
“Auditor General himself separates the money spent for his personal uses and office uses from the total money spent for his trips abroad, by referring to the statements.”
The commission also noted that Auditor General’s personal expenses were reimbursed, when he received the monthly statements although some expenses made after April 2009 that were not reimbursed were settled, by including them in the reconciliation statement.
Commission is also concerned on the fact that although Auditor General’s health insurance scheme was included in his salary, the Office paid for his health insurance scheme,
