- Four island chiefs and key DRP figures in Raa Atoll joins MDP

Alhaan Fahumy, MP for S. Feydhoo has said that he will prove that MDP’s decentralization plan is not unconstitutional, even though debating against all the lawyers in the country. Alhaan made the comment in an MDP meeting held in R. Alifushi in support of MDP’s decentralization plan.

“I have never said that MDP’s decentralization plan is unconstitutional. I will prove that MDP’s decentralization plan is not unconstitutional, even after debating against all the lawyers in the country” he said.

He also said that even when he was at the opposition DRP, he had supported the draft bill in principle and said that we would not achieve the development we aspire without decentralization.

Speaking at the meeting, Alhaan said that President Nasheed is a very courageous and shrewd leader and that his policies are farsighted.

He also said that even when he was at the opposition he acknowledged President Nasheed’s contribution to bring in democracy to the country. He also said President’s farsightedness can be seen in his plan to reduce the size of the civil service, measure to reduce civil servant’s pay and his decision to stop subsidizing STELCO. He also said that he is hopeful of the government and that there are some real goals in the government’s agenda. He also said that President Nasheed does not wish to take easy decisions which would temporarily increase his popularity in the public, supporting his assessment.

Alhaan also said that although DRP had controlled the parliament during last year it has not submitted any real legislation which would benefit the people. But he said that on the contrary it had high-jacked the government in the name of making the government accountable.

MDP Secretary-General Hassan Shah also spoke at the meeting, mainly on MDP’s recent successful membership drive which had made the party as the largest party in the Maldives and of the advantages being a president of a party’s local cell.

The very first MDP meeting held in R. Alifushi, a DRP stronghold, was also addressed by MP for H. A. Baarah Mohamed Shifaz, for N. Manadhoo Mohamed Thariq and MP for Central Fuah Mulah, Shifaq Mufeed.

The meeting also featured the joining of four island chiefs in the atoll to MDP, former leaders of DRP cells in the atoll, activists of DRP and many other members of the public. The island was well decorated for the meeting and the guests were warmly welcomed by R. Alifushi residents.

  1. First I didnt want to accept when those people branded you as a RAT, but you have proved now that you are worse than a RAT.
Oh yeah, when did you knew that Nasheed is a farsighted leader, only when Dr Shaheed handed over you that envelop?

  3. Feel sorry about your abrupt assessment for the current regime. People like you are known as pole vaulters, who takes the opportunity no matter how unethical it is. You were fielded by DRP and got elected as a DRP’er, though today you seems to be a political back stabber. Ungrateful posture of an unethical being.
