DRP Members does not support for having presidential primaries
Article Tools
DRP Member Ali Waheed has said that the party had received a draft amendment to the charter of the party to hold primaries to decide its presidential candidate.
The idea had been floated by many DRP leaders during the past meetings and is seen as a challenge to Party’s next leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali.
Although the idea was floated by Umar Naseer, many members of the DRP believe that the amendment would not pass through the congress, as Thasmeen had already secured party’s nomination and great majority of the members and its leaders are well behind Thasmeen.
On 25 January 2010 former President Maummon announced that he will not compete in for another term as DRP leader, Thasmeen announced candidature as the leader of the party. Thasmeen had been automatically decided as the leader of the party as no other candidate is contesting.
