DRP Elections are not free and fair – Yaameen

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Abdulla Yaameen, former senior member of the DRP has said that the elections within the DRP are not free and fair. His comments came as the DRP is gearing up preparations for the party’s national congress to be held later this month.

Speaking to media, Yaameen, half-brother of DRP’s leader and former president said that the fact that even the leader of the party could be elected without an election is simply undemocratic. Yaameen’s party, Peoples Alliance, however elected him as its leader without any competition.

However, Yaameen agreed that the current ruling party MDP’s internal democracy is more established and is more transparent than any other party in the country. He also noted that the MDP’s presidential candidate and current president is the only candidate who won nomination from a party primary. DRP has already elected party’s leader, leader of the women’s wing and leader and deputy leader of the youth wing by default as only one candidate is competing for the posts while the congress have not even begun. However those positions would be endorsed by the congress.

DRP’s new leader would be Ahmed Thasmeen Ali and women’s wing’s leader is Dhunya Maumoon while the leader and deputy leader of the youth wing is Ahmed Mahloof and Ghassaan Maumoon respectively.

  2. DRP was never a democratic party and never will in the near future. This applies to most of the other opposition parties PA,DQP etc..

  3. Yamin got his leadership position of PA uncontested. Yamin is far from embracing democracy or accepting democratic values. Yamin is a thug who embezzeled millions of dollars when his half-brother Gayoom was the president of Maldives.

It would be better for Yamin to talk about democracy in his own party. How did he become the leader? Was there a party primary? Was there a party congress? — No hell no — and he is the person talking about others been undemocratic? He will be taking the second slot of Thasmeen’s ticket and be his running mate. Yamin thinks Maldivians are idiots so people who are shaky might join him in order to defeat Thasmeen thinking that Yamin would run for presidency. At the last moment they will join together in a bid to defeat MDP. But that will only prove Yamin’s dishonesty and unrealiability.

It is not surprising that Yamin would end up doing all that because he has pocketed enough money. Yet talks about people’s rights.

Yamin is a sore loser and thinks that his cunning methonds will still work. God-willing, we will not allow any of these corrupt DRP-PA thugs to come to power nor would we allow thugs from Qaumee Party.

Yamin failed as Trade Minister, Minister of State for finance, Minister of “Masdhalhu” and Higher Education and finally as Minister of Tourism. All these failures and embezzeling must tell us all something. This guy is power-hungry and blood-thirsty. We should warn the general public about these people.

  4. Yamin has finally agreed that, MDP’s internal democracy is better than all parties & more transparent. Hah Hah Haaa. Your brother Gayoom is no more with you & he still wants to rule the country. For all his benifits to him & Thasneem. You all are corrupted thugs…….

  5. Gayyoom & Co (including Gayyoom, Yaamin, Abdulla Hameed and Family, Gasim, Thasmeen etc. etc) have been plundered the nation to NIL bottom! Serve them right!
Now that they do not have open coffers, choking cannot be far away!
Gasim, with a bit of money back in the pocket is getting ready to come out of the shell kissing good bye to the people who took him to heights he had never expected!
It is good to see rotten apples coming out of storage all by its self!
