A speedboat traveling to Hulhule Airport from Rannaalhi Resort and Hulhumale ferry collided near fonadhoo today around 12 noon, injuring 11 passengers, 5 of them are injured seriously.
Police reported that the speedboat was attached for few seconds to the ferry after the incident, because of the sheer speed of the two vessels.
ADK Hospital reported that 9 passengers were injured and that 8 had already been released after treatment.
Three children were also injured in the incident. A police official sitting in the front of the ferry was thrown into the window, seriously injuring him. Plastic chairs in the ferry were also broken while three sustained other injuries.
According to the experts the region does not allow speedboats to travel in full speeds and that such a collision on a fine weather on not so rough seas is alarming.
