Thasmeen to compete for DRP Leadership
Article Tools
As the preparations for the DRP congress to be held from 20 – 21 February are gearing up, party’s leadership would be the most important decision which the congress will make. Miadhu Daily has learned that Thasmeen is going to compete for the top job, despite the rumors that former President Gayyoom may compete for the post and that he is going to be the presidential candidate of the party in 2013.
“Thasmeen will compete for the post. Although there are some pressures from within the party, Thasmeen is more popular and Thasmeen will win the election as well” he said.
In addition to Thasmeen’s decision to run for DRP leadership, Maumoon’s half brother and PA’s leader Abdulla Yaameen has announced that he is running for presidency on 2013. Abdulla Yaameen, who is very experienced in politics and economy, is seen by some as a good candidate for presidency.
As there are many of his supporters among the MPs and among general membership, Thasmeen’s supporters believe that he should be able to win the elections although it would be a tough call. Some people also estimate that he had spent 40 million dollars from his own pocket on behalf of the party.
Abdulla Shahid, Dunya Maumoon, Ali Waheed, Hamdhoon Hameed and Umar Naseer are rumored to compete for deputy leadership of the party while Ghassaan Maumoon is expected to compete for the leadership of the youth wing. Deadline to submit names is 31 January 2010.
Speaker Abdulla Shahid and member of the DRP Steering Committee on Congress said that this congress would be one of the largest and best political events held.

If it is like resort bidding (which it is), then Thasmeen will surely win
Way to go Thasmeen. You deserve it. Hope you win.
Maldivian should be befogged to elect someone who brought our financial system to near collapse because of his greed, power abuse and selfishness. So even if he becomes the “zaeem” i dont think he will make it to Muleeage.
Im sure DRP can do better than Thasmeen. Or perhaps MDP can help to bring someone from India? (10 year agreement will be good)
wonder how he got his masters degree. did he buy it from egypt?
