President of the Adhaalath Party attacked on the street

Sheikh Hussain Rasheed Ahmed, President of the Adhaalathu Party has been attacked on the night of 11 January 2010 around 1230 am by a group near Masjidhul Sulthaan Mohamed-bin-Abdulla. The attackers dropped him from his motorbike. Although he was not injured in the incident, his motorbike was severely damaged. Adhaalathu Party had condemned the attack and called on the relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. Adhaalathu also called on the Police to step up its operations to make streets safer and had asked the people who encourage such acts also to justice.
The party also said that it is of the view that such activities threaten the peace and security of all Maldivians. Press release also said that some political parties are resorting to violence when they could not win politically. Party also that it is very important to pursue justice without any regard to whom perpetrators of such act are and to which party they are affiliated.
