Party to manage Airport will be decided this year – Adhil

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Adhil Saleem, Minister of State for Economic Development has said that the government’s plan to develop Male International Airport is moving forward and a party to develop and manage the airport will be decided in April 2010.

Adhil Saleem also said that airport development project is a key project for the government, but the cost of the project is too much for the government to raise on its own. He said that the bidding process is open for the International parties and the process is being carried for the Government of Maldives by the World Bank’s International Finance Cooperation. He also said that 8 interested parties have developed 8 proposals and the government would receive the proposals next week.

Despite the high tourist influx of the country, many people believe that its Airport was developed in early 1970s and had seen very few changes since then.
