Article Tools
Abdulla Yaameen, leader of the Peoples Alliance has said that President Nasheed’s government gets a “U” pass in rule of law, despite the pledge to do better on that area than Gayyoom’s government during the campaign. His remarks came in an address to the Ihthijaaj movement last Friday night.
He also said that earlier “Candidate” Nasheed stood for more discussion with the Island Development Committees, people and political parties, but President Nasheed is acting in direct contradiction to his campaign pledges and questioned such a president would be a democratic president.
He also said that the IDC’s which President Nasheed said should be consulted, is being dissolved by him and said that the government could have provided legal standing for the IDCs through the Parliament, but the government chose not to. He also said that DRP and PA had supported the government in the Parliament if it had been sent to the Parliament.
The meeting was addressed by the senior members of the PA and IDP leader Umar Naseer and criticized the government heavily, among other things on decentralization bill and health sector.
